Management
Mr. Driscoll is a widely respected pioneer in the oil and gas, and royalty trust sectors. His enterprises launched in the 1980s were the first to give Canadian investors a direct interest in oil and gas production. During the last 20 years, Mr. Driscoll has been Chairman or CEO of issuers that have invested, or managed the investment of, more than $12 billion. He has founded numerous public partnerships as well as public and private energy and investment-related companies. Mr. Driscoll has more than 35 years of diversified business experience.
Ari Silverberg , President and Chief Operating Officer
Ari Silverberg joined Charter in the fall of 2006. Mr. Silverberg has significant experience in negotiating, structuring and managing real estate transactions. Prior to joining Charter, Mr. Silverberg worked as a senior director at Chicago-based General Growth Properties Inc., the second-largest U.S. retail REIT in terms of gross leaseable area. He was responsible for the evaluation, acquisition and development of retail and mixed-use real estate opportunities. Previously, he served as a member of RioCan REIT’s development group in Toronto.
Mr. Silverberg earned his MBA in 2001 from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He also holds a LL.B. from the University of British Columbia and a BA from the University of Western Ontario.
Floriana Cipollone, a Chartered Accountant with more than 15 years of diversified business experience, joined Charter in January 2007. Previously, she was Vice-President, Corporate Planning & Strategy, of O&Y Properties Corporation and Vice-President, Finance of O&Y Real Estate Investment Trust. Ms. Cipollone was actively involved in the creation of O&Y REIT and in all of O&Y's strategic, capital markets and financing activities.
Ms. Cipollone earned her Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto in 1990 and has been a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario since 1992.
Steve Ronald , Vice-President, Acquisitions
Steve Ronald joined Charter REIT in 2007 as Vice-President, Acquisitions. He has more than 10 years of experience in commercial and residential real estate both for private and institutional investors. Prior to this, Mr. Ronald was employed with Bentall Investment Management in 2002 as Senior Acquisitions Analyst, later advancing to Director of Acquisitions and Sales. His most recent experience with Bentall focused on sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing retail and industrial assets across all major markets of Canada.
Prior to Bentall, Mr. Ronald joined Sun Life Financial where he focused on financial analysis, due diligence and negotiation of office, residential, industrial and retail investments. Previously, he worked at PMA Brethour Group providing consulting services for residential and mixed-use developments.
Mr. Ronald earned his Bachelor of Applied Arts degree (urban and regional planning) and an Environmental Management Certificate from Ryerson University.
Sandra Wilson , Vice-President, Accounting and Reporting
 Sandra Wilson, a Chartered Accountant with more than 20 years of diversified business experience, joined Charter REIT in 2007. She has more than nine years of senior financial management experience with publicly traded real estate companies, specializing in both retail and commercial real estate.
Previously, Ms. Wilson worked as Controller for O&Y Real Estate Investment Trust, where she was responsible for all aspects of the finance function, including financial reporting for the REIT properties. Additionally, she was responsible for managing the acquisition due diligence process and implementing the post-acquisition integration plan.
Prior to this, Ms. Wilson worked as Corporate Controller for Ivanhoe Cambridge Inc.(formerly Cambridge Shopping Centres Ltd.), responsible for all statutory reporting and financial systems, which included the implementation of an enterprise-wide accounting system.
Ms. Wilson obtained her C.A. designation in 1988 and earned her Bachelor of Economics and Business degree from York University in 1986.
Kevin Cohen , General Counsel, Corporate
Kevin Cohen joined Charter REIT in 2006 as its General Counsel, Corporate.
Prior to joining Charter, Mr. Cohen practiced corporate and securities law with Torys LLP from 2004 to 2006. From 2002 to 2004, he attended the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, graduating in 2004 with a Masters of Business Administration degree.
From 1994 to 2002, Mr. Cohen practiced law in Vancouver after obtaining his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1994 from the University of British Columbia. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1991 from the University of Western Ontario.
He also holds the position of Vice-President, Operations & General Counsel of Sentry Select Capital Corp. and General Counsel of C.A. Bancorp Inc.
Ryan joined Charter REIT in 2007 as its Corporate Secretary.
Prior to joining Charter Realty, Ryan worked as an associate lawyer with Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP in Toronto. During his time there, he practiced corporate law with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, and corporate finance.
Ryan received his call to the bar in 2003 after he earned his Bachelor of Laws degree from Queen’s University. He earned his Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in 1998 from the University of Western Ontario.
Ryan also holds the position of Associate General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Sentry Select Capital Corp. and Corporate Secretary of C.A. Bancorp Inc.
Justin Cohen , Analyst, Finance and Acquisitions
Justin Cohen joined Charter REIT in 2008 as Analyst, Finance and Acquisitions. He will be focusing on the analysis of the REIT’s real estate transactions and promotional materials for industry presentations.
Prior to joining Charter REIT, Mr. Cohen worked as an analyst for IPC US REIT from 2005 to 2007. While at IPC, he provided analyses for the REIT’s finance and acquisitions team as well as its accounting department.
Mr. Cohen graduated from Dalhousie University in 2007, where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in finance.
